Fourth year of Wheels For Humanity concert headlined by NOFX

There's never enough nice things you can say about the bands that help out charities. This year, SideOneDummy head Joe Sib has lined up a few stellar bands to help with the UCP Wheels for Humanity. In short, Wheels For Humanity is set up to give wheelchairs (or repair current wheelchairs) for needy people worldwide. Since 1996, the program has helped over 44,000 people (adults and children) worldwide get access to functional wheelchairs.

The Rock To Roll benefit concert is in its fourth year helping out WFH, and has raised over $87,000 in its first 3 incarnations.

This year, NOFX will headline the one night show in San Francisco on Dec. 3 at Slim's. Also on the bill are Dead to Me, Wax and Nathen Maxwell and the Original Bunny Gang. An online auction will also be setup benefitting the cause featuring merch from artists like Blink-182, Chuck Ragan, Flogging Molly and more.

hits and misses:\
  • Fink, aka Fin Greenall, has lined up a whole 4 US dates for December. Fink is "touring" in support of his new album Sort of Revolution out now. 12/4 - Spaceland, LA, CA; 12/8 - Schuba's Tavern, Chicago, IL; 12/9 - Union Hall, Brooklyn, NY; 12/10 - Joe's Pub, NYC, NY.
  • These New Puritans will release their second album, Hidden on Jan 18 on Angular Records. The band features six-foot Japanese Taiko drums, a thirteen piece brass and woodwind ensemble, sub-heavy beats, prepared piano, a children’s choir, Foley recording techniques (including a melon with cream crackers attached struck by a hammer, used to simulate the sound of a human head being smashed), and the ethereal voice of Heather Marlatt from dream-pop group Salem
  • Next week, Rykodisc will release a short EP by Leslie Mendelsen titled the Joel Dorn Sessions. The EP was culled from a recording session with jazz/r&b producer Joel Dorn who passed away in Dec. 2007.
