Who the hell is Gobotron and why should Manchester Orchestra fans care?

Here we have a double-edged post featuring Gobotron and Manchester Orchestra. What you've heard of the latter, not the former? My guess is many hard-nosed fans of M.O. know of Gobotron, the solo-project of M.O. guitarist Robert McDowell.

As of next Tuesday, Jan 19, Gobotron officially joins the ranks of the millions of artists making money off released music, when On Your Mark, Get Set... is released (Digitally) on Favorite Gentlemen Records.

McDowell started the project in 2008 in his parent's house, and eventually did all the writing, recording and playing himself.

Per McDowell: "The goal for ON YOUR MARK, GET SET...was to put every song into overdrive right from the start. The writing would begin with a verse, chorus, or just a riff. I'd set up a mic in the middle of the room and build up parts running from one instrument to another. Once I could hear what it was going to sound like, I would write the rest of the song and re-record the entire song. Then when everything was laid out, I started from scratch again and recorded the version that made it on the CD. This is a computer album that could have never been done if it were on tape. It became a science project rather than a band."

back to the band you've all no doubt heard of, Manchester Orchestra. More tour dates have been announced for the band, after being one of the hottest artists on the circuit in 2009.
