SXSW get their Irish fix from Belfast Showcase

lots of info here, so you're getting the whole thing -

Belfast City Council has done it again, showcasing the finest talent Northern Ireland has to offer at the 2010 South by South West Festival in Austin, Texas. Belfast City Council are running two events at the festival, ‘Belfast Rocks’ and ‘Belfast Unplugged’ , have 18 creative businesses in attendance and launching the ‘Belfast Music i Phone app’ and ‘Belfast Music’’ promotional compilation CD which includes tracks from 17 of the finest bands and artists in the country. This will be something you don’t want to miss.

The first event ‘Belfast Rocks’ promises to be a spectacular one, with accomplished NI favourites And So I Watch You From Afar, General Fiasco, Fighting With Wire and Strait Laces all showcasing their talents at Latitude 30 on March 17th 2010 from 12 noon until 3pm –

‘Belfast Unplugged’, a Transatlantic artist and business networking party hosted in ‘Birds’ - Austin’s coolest barbershop (on E 6th St) from 5.00 to 7.30pm - featuring some fantastic collaborative acoustic performances by a bunch of great Northern Ireland (Eilidh Patterson, The Lost Brothers, Ben Glover, Anthony Toner) and American artists (Kimmie Rhodes & Paul Brainard). All accompanied by some serious Southern cuisine. Invite only

From Wednesday 17th March until Saturday 21st March, Belfast City Council will be representing Belfast music at the SXSW exhibition area as part of the British Music Stand in the Austin Convention Centre. Visitors to the stand will be able to meet with Belfast representatives and pick up various resources including the new volume of ‘Belfast: Sounds of the City’ CD compilation, which features 17 tracks from Belfast’s new and up and coming artists.

Also at this years’ SXSW will be the unveiling of the ‘Belfast Music iPhone app’, this showcases past legends and contemporary inspirations that have shaped the music landscape of our city. We see where our legends grew up and cut their musical teeth, and show off the present wealth of musical talent. Within this application we experience a Music Heritage tour; the Hall Of Fame introduces you to the legends of Belfast Music; the Gig Listings & News sections will keep you up to date on all things going on in the scene of Belfast Music; and Showcase will introduce you to the best in contemporary Belfast Music taking the world by storm.
