Slowtrain Records, one of the premiere independent record stores in the country and the nexus of the Salt Lake City music community, is announcing its plans for National Record Store Day—and they’re huge ones that include the launch of Slowtrain’s very own namesake label imprint, Slowtrain Records.
The store, owned and operated by husband and wife duo Chris and Anna Brozek, has always thrived on the energy of the Salt Lake City music community, of which their business is an integral part. It’s only natural that they have decided to take things one step further and introduce their own label as part of their extensive National Record Store Day activities. Slowtrain Records’ first official release, a full-length from The Devil Whale, will come out on vinyl in Fall 2010, and all kinds of exciting pre-release activity surrounding the launch will be announced in the coming months. Additionally, the Brozeks have been working with Salt Lake City and Utah-based musicians and a local CD pressing company to create a limited-edition Record Store Day release that celebrates the region’s thriving, vibrant scene and, perhaps, introduces it to a broader audience.
On National Record Store Day itself (April 17, 2010--http://www.recordstoreday.com/), Slowtrain is hosting an all-day party featuring Continentals, The Futurists, Desert Noises, The Naked Eyes, The Devil Whale and more, limited-edition vinyl and CD releases, free grab bags full of music and prizes for the first 30 customers, and more. For those wishing to take a break while bands play in the main Slowtrain storeroom, cool seating and acoustic performances will take place in the Subterranean Lounge downstairs all day as well. Beer from Red Rock Brewing Company will be available for those over 21 at the three-day event, which starts this Friday, April 16th with SLC's Gallery Stroll and ends this Sunday, April 18th, with an amazing potluck brunch.
Slowtrain is also thrilled to announce that, as part of Record Store Day, they’ve partnered to raise money for The Junior League of Salt Lake City (http://www.jlslc.org/), an incredible local charitable organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action, education and leadership of trained volunteers. The store will host a raffle with prizes from local businesses and artists, and the Junior League will be on-site serving delicious food—100% of proceeds from both the raffle and food sales will go directly to the organization.
